Dubai, UAE February 13 – A new service for Overseas Filipino Workers to assist in payment of their kids’ schooling in the Philippines, was launched in Dubai, UAE this past weekend.
PhilSmile, a new payment facility where OFWs can directly pay for their loved ones’ tuition in the Philippines, was launched and demonstrated in front of an audience of OFWs at the Dream Palace Hotel in Dubai. With PhilSmile’s service, Filipinos in the UAE can now conveniently access multiple payment kiosks and pay their kids’ tuition directly to their respective schools. Users, who can register on PhilSmile for free, will be informed and reminded of tuition payments via SMS. After school terms are finished, OFW parents will also be sent the grades of their kids.
PhilSmile is powered by TransferTo, whose network of payment kiosk providers make the PADALA ESKWELA service widely available for OFWs in various countries. Demonstrated at the launch were how to use PhilSmile’s service in the UAE via payment kiosk providers: NT. Payments and ManGo, who together have OVER 800 kiosks in all of the UAE. Given this, OFWs now have a more accessible and easy way to pay for their loved ones schooling back in the Philippines. Aside from the convenience, PhilSmile offers lower sending fees than traditional cash remittance which can start as low as only 3 AED. This is definitely great news to Filipinos in the UAE, which is one of the most highly populated countries with OFWs.
Established last year, PhilSmile aims to help overseas Filipino workers with their goal: Makapagpatapos. Providing an education for their kids is one of the major reasons Filipinos migrate to work abroad, and PhilSmile ensures that OFWs’ hard earned money goes towards the education of their kids. No longer do OFW children need to worry (or even dropout) if their tuition money would not be remitted in time; PhilSmile takes care of reminding OFWs regarding their loved ones’ tuition bills and facilitating payments in a fast, efficient and more affordable way.
In addition to the PhilSmile demonstration, Ms. Susan Francisco gave a talk on Filipino Migrant Workers, their savings and statistics to educate participating OFWs on their savings and investments.
