Manila, Philippines— PhilSmile sponsored a seminar-workshop last July 5, 2014, at Emilio Aguinaldo College. In partnership with EAC’s Center for Guidance and Counseling, the Seminar-Workshop was attended by 103 OFWs’ children. The topics are: The Joys and Challenges of having OFW Parents in Building Your Own Future, and Clarity and Performance: An Introduction to Producing Results.
The seminar-workshop started at 7:30 in the morning for registration and followed by doxology and national anthem. Mr. Randy Wilson C. Delfino, RCG, Director for Center for Guidance and Counseling, gave the Opening Remarks. EAC students who have OFW parents listened to both speakers of the event, Dr. Mayla T. Sampa; PhilSmile’s Vice President for Business Development and Mr. Richard “D-Cal” W. Dacalos, Spin Manila Founder. PhilSmile partnered with Spin Manila, which brings together a diverse group of professionals from different disciplines and background, together aimed to solve social problems through the co-creation of playful and profitable projects and enterprises.
Dr. Sampa spoke about the Joys and Challenges of Having OFW Parents in Building Your Own Future. The topic is focused on the relationship of the parents to their children in spite of the distance; the coping mechanisms of separation and the phenomenon of materialism. The students were focused in listening and very engaged in sharing their joys, challenges and dreams towards themselves amidst the reality of having OFW parent/s.
The second speaker, “D-cal” focused on the three Laws of Performance: Perspective, Language, and Future-based language. He discussed how OFW children can succeed in life and achieving their goals. He also said that our own wrong perspective and fear can hinder our performance. D-Cal coached students how to have a mind set of owning their dreams and goals in order to succeed. In short, he taught students to always think positive and mean what they say and promise.
Based on the seminar evaluation, 96%of the participants said that the seminar was useful and it helped a lot in dealing with their personal experiences. The students learned how to manage their own life, their studies, goals and dreams to succeed in life in order to repay the hardships of their OFW parents.
PhilSmile is helping OFWs to know where their money goes and be sure their hard-earned money is spent on what they cared most: Makapagpatapos. It also reached out hundreds of OFW students to be enlightened and realized their own goal and helps their parents fulfill their goal “by studying hard and succeeding in everything they do.
