Davao Wisdom Academy (DWA) , Davao, Philippines, October 22, 2014 – “Dedicated Associates in Promoting Really Innovative and Sensible Advocacies” were the best words to describe the attending officers and members of the Davao Association of Private Schools and Administration, Inc. (DAPRISA) by PhilSmile Regional Director for Mindanao, Jose Miguel “Migs” Lisbona during his presentation at the association’s regular monthly meeting. This gathering was graciously hosted by Ms. Dixie B. Gutierrez, DAPRISA Audit Committee Chair (Davao Wisdom Academy)
DWA’s Mr. Wilfred Dexter G. Tañedo, the Basic Education Assistant Director and heads the Office of Student’s Activities (OSA) welcomed and introduced the Academy to the members. He focused on the value of transformative learning and promoting the DWA curriculum as a brand to depend on. He spoke also bout their Sunday High School Program as well as the challenges it along with the other members will be experiencing in the K to 12 implementation. In spite of this, Mr. Dexter is hopeful that together they will see students’ successfully graduate.
Migs took part in the simulation of a unique learning tool developed by DAPRISA Director, Dr. Rosalina “Rose” A. Evora (St. Francis Xavier Learning Center). The “ I’m SMART (Science MAth Reading and Technology) Pizza Mini Olympics” picked the brains of DAPRISA members whom playfully interacted with each other as they answered the questions as best they can so that they can form a pie. This promotes formative learning through interaction, discussions, questioning and creativity beyond the traditional context and rote based learning methods. This copyrighted game includes seven areas which includes (Physics, Chemistry, Science, Geology and Math). This is so effective and in fact, several feedback from the parents and teachers attest to it that children enjoy this a lot. Students who experience this soon exclaim “I’m so excited for school today!”
“If a child can’t learn the way we teach, maybe we should teach the way they learn.” This famous quote by Igancio Estrada’s encapsulated the intention , passion and dedication Dr. Rose. The potential for this learning tool is enormous.
The Association aside from their regular agenda, discussed and updated the group with their planned inter-member school activities for November until the end of the current school year.
He focused on how through the DAPRISA member schools’ collaboration with PhilSmile could help address the various needs of OFW students/beneficiaries and their parents na Makapagtapos
Migs appreciated and enjoyed the company of DAPRISA members. It reminded him of his administration days and the energy, passion, dedication of most of those whom he collaborated at a University and associations he participated in Manila.
He purposefully desires to see the BIG SMILE on the glowing faces of the School Administration & Teachers, OFW Parents and their children/beneficiaries when they graduate!
